TT: Why Do Oils Work for Some People and Not Others
WHY do some oils work for some people and not for others? Do we know the science behind it (or have any ideas?).
Basically, we all different. More to the point, just because someone may have the same “label” as someone else, doesn’t mean it stems from the same cause. If something has a different cause, it will likely have a different solution. Physical wellness issues can stem from many different things – for some it’s genetic, for some it’s what they’re putting in their mouths, for some it’s the toxic chemicals used in the home and in their environment, for some, root causes may stem from a person’s own thoughts and/or emotions. And there can be other causes as well.
Let’s consider a headache. There are many types of headaches – some might stem from a hormonal imbalance, some might stem from dehydration, some might be because of being in the sun for an extended period of time and exposed to bright light without sunglasses, for some it might be because someone just whacked them on the head with a 2×4. A holistic doctor would treat each of those root causes very differently. All have a headache but a naturopath wouldn’t give hormone-balancing products to the person who just needs to rehydrate with water.
For most of us, at least with more long-term issues, those issues likely stem from a combination of many things and the solution depends on what the contributing factors to those issues are. I don’t always have to know the root cause of whatever I’m working on, I can begin with something recommended by the book and it will often work. If not, I can apply more and/or more frequently and that will often work. If not, I can switch to another recommendation and repeat the process until I find what works for my body in that moment.
The more adverse things we encounter in life that we are not able to adequately process/release as they occur, whether emotionally, physically, spiritually, etc, sometimes requires more intensive peeling back of the “onion layers,” if you will. One of my friends taught Raindrop (a unique practice based on methods that have been used for centuries to rejuvenate the body and mind) recently and one of the things she talked about was that this technique using essential oils allows people to press a “re-do” button. It can release us from the past (consequences of past choices) and allows us to make new and different choices in the present. After a Raindrop, sometimes people notice great benefits, sometimes people notice good benefits, sometimes people might not notice any particular benefits other than being really relaxed. Sometimes it takes two or more sessions to start noticing a difference. Perhaps it might take more “peeling back of the onion layers” or more work at the cellular and sub-cellular levels for people to start seeing more noticeable changes.
Sometimes there are issues present in our lives that have something to teach us. And those issues will not leave until we have learned that lesson. That’s starting to get really deep.
I am beginning to study this topic from many scientists, doctors, and other PhD experts, etc. There is a lot of science behind this. While there are many publications on this topic, the one that may be the best to start with is Molecules of Emotion: The Science Behind Mind-Body Medicine by Candace B Pert, PhD. She explains and documents this topic very well, and she uses Young Living.
