Frugal Friday: Hair Care
I’m preparing to share Young Living’s options for hair care, and I was considering how best to do that. I’ll begin with a chart, showing your options and which type of hair each is designed to benefit, then I’ll discuss some ways you can extend what’s in the bottle as well as ways you may want to enhance your blend.
These enhancements will probably work with any shampoo, but I’ll suggest you may want to get the chemicals and fragrances out of your life, too. I do understand you may have reasons to delay the transition.
Once you decide which shampoo (and conditioner) is right for your hair, consider picking up a couple of 4 oz flip top bottles. Transfer 1 – 3 ounces of shampoo to this bottle, add water to fill the bottle, and you’ve extended the range of your shampoo by diluting it to a level that still provides good cleaning properties for your hair. For shampoo, I prefer a 50:50 blend. For conditioner, one part conditioner to three parts water works for me. At a minimum, 50:50. Young Living’s conditioner is so concentrated, I have trouble getting it out of the bottle if I don’t dilute it. It’s just too thick otherwise.
I have four oils I like to add to my shampoo, no matter which shampoo I’m using. For a 4 oz bottle, I use 30 drops of each oil. Shake well before each use.
Lavender
Cedarwood (smooths and shines hair)
Rosemary
Tea Tree (for a healthy scalp)
