Tea Tree (Melaleuca Alternifolia)
I’d be remiss if I didn’t talk about Tea Tree Essential Oil, whose formal name is Melaleuca Alternifolia. Let’s just call it Tea Tree, okay? Tea Tree is an alternate oil for the Premium Starter Kit (PSK), and I’m most thankful it came in mine. Normally available in a 15 ml bottle, 5 ml bottles are available in the Everyday Essential Oils Collection and when it comes as an alternate oil in the PSK.
Why am I thankful for this? Tea Tree has done a remarkable job of supporting my skin health. I add it to my shampoo, and my scalp has never been healthier. When I’ve been exposed to poison ivy, I’ve applied a few drops to affected skin for several days and have usually been able to avoid having to get a steroid shot to control my reaction. (Remember, oils provide molecules for your body to use as needed, so everyone responds differently to different oils, and what helps me may not help you in exactly the same way, but, generally speaking, Tea Tree oil supports skin care and provides cleansing properties. I believe it’s the cleansing properties found in the oil that help me avoid full-fledged poison ivy breakouts.)
What is the recommended usage for Tea Tree?
Topical: Apply 2-4 drops directly to desired area. Dilution not required, except for the most sensitive skin. Use as needed.
Aromatic: Diffuse up to 30 minutes 3 times daily.
Caution: Keep out of reach of children. For external use only. Keep away from eyes and mucous membranes. If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or have a medical condition, consult a health professional prior to use.
